By The Road Side
Being stuck at the roadside isn’t fun. We aim to get you moving as fast as possible when you need us the most.
With us being in the car lock business for over 20 years we have seen a lot of faults that crop up time and time again.
From central locking that unlocks itself to keys that are temperamental.
Let’s have a look at the most common types of faults we deal with on a daily basis.
The most common faults
Faulty Key Fob
This is one of the most common issues that we get called out for.
With keys being with us most of the time, slung on the countertop or in the depths of a handbag they take a lot of abuse.
We have a page dedicated to broken key fobs and keys.
You can read more about how we fix them here.
The key gets stuck in the lock
As more and more cars move towards keyless entry systems and central locking this is less common but can still be a problem for older vehicles and work vans.
The most common vehicle we see this on is older transit vans. The keys get stuck in the lock barrel on the door and can snap.
Thankfully we are fully equipped to deal with this in a flash.

Central locking not unlocking all doors
Central locking can cause several issues with one door locking and the others not or the boot staying unlocked.
Most of the time this can be down to the ECU which we are equipped to re-program.
In some cases, it could be that a solenoid has failed and will need replacing.
You can find out more about ECU repairs here and more about lock repairs here
The car unlocks but the car won’t start.
This is one of the calls we get almost daily.
Sometimes your key can become unpaired from the immobiliser due to a flat battery on either the car, the key fob or both.
We can program keys back to the immobiliser and have you on your way in no time.
We can reprogram your key wherever you are so if your car won’t start don’t hesitate to call.

No power from the key fob
Sometimes key fobs display no power at all. Some keys don’t even have a LED light on them to let you know if there is power.
Often batteries can be at fault and all you will need to do is replace them.
You can purchase batteries from just about anywhere including supermarkets and some petrol stations.
If you have replaced your keys battery and the key still doesn’t work it’s worth checking out our page on key repairs.
